Arts Excellence Awards

Current research shows that the arts are a critical part of the educational experience.  Students who participate in the arts score more highly on tests, show clearer critical thinking, show a far superior ability to concentrate, and score more favorably in areas of psychological stability an problem-solving ability.

The evidence is that it is participation in the arts which actually brings about these effects.   Participation literally brings about changes in the architecture of the brain.

Unfortunately, students who excel in the Arts are often unrewarded and unrecognized.  The Foundation is proud, therefore, that Masonry in partnership with the State Department of Education, underwrites the most important and prestigious recognition program in Oklahoma:  The State Superintendent’s Awards for Arts Excellence, brings students, their families, their teachers, and often school board to the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Guthrie.  There they are the guests of honor at a gala reception, with hors d’oeuvres, strolling musicians, and art displays throughout the building.  During the awards program, the Grand Master and the State Superintendent of Education present each student with a medal hanging from a neck ribbon.  The medals are struck by the same company which makes the medals for the International Olympics.
